Payday 3 es un título que requiere de conexión permanente a Internet para poder disfrutar no sólo de los contenidos en línea, sino también para jugar a los modos offline. Debido a esta característica, los jugadores que quieran jugar en solitario deben conectarse a los servidores de matchmaking para iniciar atracos privados, aunque en estos momentos es difícil conectarse a dichos servidores, ya que hay largas colas de espera. Este problema ha provocado que el juego tenga una calificación media «mayoritariamente negativa» en Steam.
«Imagínate esperar una hora y diez minutos y seguir sin poder entrar en una partida privada», comenta un usuario descontento. «Que no haya modo offline es un verdadero fastidio para nosotros los jugadores en solitario. Colas y lag solo para jugar en solitario es penoso», expresa otro.
Los problemas con los servidores son habituales en los lanzamientos de juegos multijugador y que estos suelen resolverse cuando la demanda se estabiliza en las semanas posteriores al lanzamiento, aunque la infraestructura online de Payday 3 ha decepcionado a algunos jugadores. Por suerte, los responsables del título han anunciado a través de un comunicado de X que ya están trabajando en solventar los problemas con la mayor celeridad posible.

«Cuando todo funciona como debe, Payday 3 es un juego divertidísimo que nos lo va a hacer pasar en grande junto a nuestros amigos, ya sea intentando completar atracos con sutileza o abriéndonos camino a tiro limpio. Las mejoras jugables son apreciables, especialmente en lo que se refiere a las mecánicas de sigilo y el gunplay, y los nuevos golpes son una genialidad, por lo que es una pena que haya llegado al mercado tan escasísimo de contenidos.
